This chapter is about collaboration between teachers. I have consistently been told that collaboration is extremely important, that way there is consistent with all the expectations teachers had for their students. If there is for consistency throughout a student's day, it will serve to eliminate misunderstandings and frustration on behalf of the students and teachers.
In the Spotlight section, Elise collaborated with four other teachers. The teachers feed off of each other and were in a position to push each other forward to develop lessons that best utilized their resources and benefit the students. Having this type of collaboration between teachers is very significant because, we as teachers always push our students to do their best and expect them to reach for the next level. If we do not model what we expect them to do and lead by example then we are not helping our students to achieve their maximum potential.
This chapter illustrates the importance of collaboration as faculty. Having a team that pushes each other to expand and get better at the art of teaching is a team that will have success in many different aspects within their school. The chapter also explains that in order to have a team that is filled with people who put their best foot forward and put forth effort when working together is a lot of work, but when done correctly can lead to amazing results for both teachers and students.
Anthony, I loved when you said that if there is consistency throughout a student's day then it will eliminate misunderstanding and frustration on behalf of students and teachers. I think one of the largest problems in school systems now is the inconsistencies and if we can work together as a team and develop consistent expectations, procedures, lessons then we will see a higher success rate in our academics!
ReplyDeleteAnthony,
ReplyDeleteI like how you included that we expect our students to collaborate with each other and as teachers it is important that we model that collaboration ourselves. If students don't see grown ups collaborating effectively, they are not going to be able to do it well themselves. I think modeling if very powerful for young learners because it gives them a guide in how to do a particular activity themselves.
Collaboration among teachers is very important. As PBL is a program designed to promote team work, nothing set a better example for the students than to see their teachers preforming what they are teaching.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of teacher collaboration but I worry if it is plausible in every situation. You always hear about having one planning hour during the day, but some teachers don't even get that. I am willing to work outside of school but I really wish that schools enabled teacher collaboration on a more regular basis because it truly is a great thing!
